Q. Considering the availability and current use of technology, do you believe that the state of Connecticut will allow school districts to implement virtual school days in lieu of snow days in the future? Would you support this if they did?
A. Currently the State of Connecticut has been very strict regarding school days due to weather. At this point, utilizing technology in lieu of school days is not on the State Department of Education’s agenda. That being said, the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents has had some discussions and its Technology Committee is researching this very topic. There are other states successfully implementing this technology. I am very supoprtive of utilizing technology on snow days as well as other innovative uses for learning.
